There are likey to be some questions you have, both before and after making a booking with us. We have put together a list of frequently asked questions that we have received here at Uptown Music.
+ After I book, when do we make arrangements?
We always contact our customers, by email, about six weeks before the date of an event. That’s when start to confirm arrangements with you so that we have everything organised a fortnight before the band’s performance.
+ WHAT IS THE TYPICAL ARRIVAL AND SETUP TIME
The typical arrival time for the band is 5pm or later. They will need 60-90 minutes to set up and sound-check. Think about where you and your guests will be whilst this is happening. If you are all going to be in the same room, you may want to arrange for an earlier arrival. Please get in touch ASAP and we can look to extend your booking to include additional time for an early set-up.
+ WILL THE BAND NEED TO PARK VEHICLES?
Yes, they will need to park a number of vehicles, depending on the number of band members. Do check with your venue regarding parking for the band, also how they will be able to access the performance space to load their equipment in. It’s always good to know what type of venue you are using, particularly if it is a marquee or any other semi-permanent structure.
+ DOES UPTOWN MUSIC HAVE INSURANCE COVER?<
Your venue may ask for verification that we have insurance (PLI) cover in place. We are happy to send copies of our documents to your contact at the venue.
+ IS THE EQUIPMENT SAFETY-TESTED?
Your venue may ask for verification that our equipment has been safety tested (PAT). We are happy to send copies of our documents to your contact at the venue.
+ WHAT ARE TYPICAL PERFORMANCE TIMES AND DURATIONS?
Typical performance times are either 2 x 60 or 3 x 40 minute live sets with first performances starting around 8-9pm. We are very flexible on timings, but do remember to allow for a break of at least 20-30 minutes between each set. Also, do check if your venue has a curfew earlier than midnight. Having to finish at a particular time may determine what time the band should start.
+ WHAT SONGS DO THE BAND PLAY AND CAN THEY LEARN NEW ONES?
You will be able to view the band’s repertoire on our website. We will also send a sample setlist by email. If you have any requests, particularly for a first dance (if a wedding), do let us have these when we email you. We will always try for the band to perform your requests but when this may not be possible we can arrange for playback of the original recording through our PA system.
+ HOW DOES THE iPOD DJ SERVICE WORK?
We offer a free iPod DJ service with all band bookings, offering you music before the band play, during their break, and afterwards until midnight (our typical finish time). We can create playlists for you, including particular choices you’ve made, or you can create a complete playlist (using Spotify for example) to share with us. You can even connect your own device to our system if you would prefer to. Just let us know your choices two weeks before the performance date.
+ DO WE NEED TO PROVIDE FOOD AND DRINK FOR THE MUSICIANS?
The band will have travelled to get to you and will be with you over a period of seven hours before packing-down at the end and travelling home again. Please provide refreshments for them, and they would certainly appreciate something to eat. You do not have to serve the same food that you may be providing for your guests but a simple meal would be welcomed.
